Ookay… vague ask incoming… Is Purl Hew alright?

Hah, hahaha... no. No Purl is very much not alright.

They have MANY problems and feel they are not worthy of love or of getting better. It is going to be a very long and hard journey for them to learn how to love themself along with how to fully trust the ones they care for.

For now, they are working on it and on themself, but are also in the current mindset that they are just an object for other people's desires and once they are no longer relevant or needed then they have lost everything and are going to be thrown out so best not to get close to anyone to minimize the pain.

I would LIKE to say that Purl and Eve get along and are able to help each other cope, but honestly the two are very unhealthy for each other. Eve actually sees a bit of Zuke in Purl, and ends up trying to treat them like Zuke, which makes her project a fake relationship between the two of them (at least before the Rock Revolution). While Purl wants to make Eve happy for the fear that she could do something to their career or family since she is a higher rank in NSR (which she never would do, but Purl's anxiety and insecurity makes them a people pleaser).

In the end the two of them would just drag each other down an endless abyss of self hate and loathing, trying to cope with a reality that is never going to happen. At least with West/Cyril for Purl, those two actually care for Purl for themself, even if West actually saw bits of Eve in Purl when they first started getting together.

Look, I don't know if much of this made sense, I think it does, but just know that Purl is a HUGE mess. No matter where they are in their life (pre- or post-revolution) I feel like Purl will be very unstable and emotionally unwell, but always trying to get better or at least make the people around them think they are getting better.

Anyway, some of the other problems Purl has are (some might be repeats):

-Childhood trauma from having an abusive mom and neglectful father

-Having memories of fighting in a war that you were forced to fight

-Being an introvert forced to act like an extrovert

-A poor family dynamic where they are always pushed aside

-Recklessly sleeping with any consenting adult that can get them drunk in the hopes of feeling physically fulfilled

-Also substance problems (Alcohol, weed, harder drugs...)

-Having physical problems such as poor eyesight, a shitty battery, and over sensitive hearing/touch

-A deep seated fear of the ocean that many people make fun of because they are an ex-navy bot

-Internalized transphobia and homophobia that pushed them away from meaningful relationships

-Lack of trust for literally anyone around them, even their own family

[I think that’s most of the major ones. I do have more probably. Anyway, sorry I hijacked this to talk about Purl’s problems lol. It’s like that thing where you have a favorite OC/blorbo so you hurt them to make yourself feel better or see them finally be happy in the end. Yeah, that is me with Purl hehe]

Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

This is my petition for people who create pins/stickers/other things with "she/they" & "he/they" to also include "she/he". I'm kind of sick of being excluded, and I'm sure there are plenty of others who feel the same.

can’t help but think of how, if we choose to go by sirius’ characterisation as a private, arrogant teen who only lets a select few into his circle, sirius’ post-azkaban life just have been such an utterly humiliating experience for him.

especially OoTP. when he has all these near strangers in his childhood house, that he hated and loved and ran away from and couldn’t ever escape. if he spent his entire pre-azkaban existence building a cold and aloof persona, not letting people know what his home life had been like, then to have all of these people get a front row seat to it because of kreacher and portrait walburga’s shenanigans must have been near unbearable. to have the entire order, including snape whom he disliked and mistrusted, hear the kinds of names he’s being called.

not only does he have to deal with the retraumatisation of his childhood, but also the fact that he’s flayed open for everyone to see. it’s not only his freedom, innocence, dignity that has been snatched from him but his privacy also. it’s such a cruel thing to experience, on top of everything else.

to have literal children, his godson who he has been kept away from all this while, whom he presumably wants to be able to look up to him, to have him see into the deepest parts of his soul. to have to be so weak in front of him. not only is he subjected to such vileness but he also cannot do anything about it.

sirius has not had a moment of peace in all the time we knew him. it is indignity upon indignity that is heaped onto him. every other character has gotten a moment of respite but him. it fully breaks my heart.

There’s not enough people talking about how important Stephanie is to Damian’s growth pre-Flashpoint.

Bruce had seen Damian as a beast to be tamed, Tim sees him as a ticking time bomb, and Dick is far better with him but he’s still an authority figure for Damian to combat with. But then he meets Stephanie, a college-aged girl who nobody trusts and he bullies her relentlessly and becomes inseparable from her.

She doesn’t interact with him based on his past, but on what she can see. This 10 year old just threatened to kill her? Wow he doesn’t get outside much. He’s not old enough to have seen Gremlins. What do you MEAN you’ve never been inside a bouncy house before we are fixing that immediately.

They are like cousins to each other. They poke fun at each other for being lame and stupid and Dick has to tell them both to shut up. She doesn’t see him as a project to be molded and redeemed, he’s just a kid with a crappy childhood like her and if he’s nice to her for 5 seconds she’ll do something with him to let him feel like a kid. And he doesn’t look at her and see a liability or a failure or a lost cause, like everyone she’s ever interacted with does. When he’s awful to her, it’s because he’s an obnoxious preteen boy.

And then you get the “there’s room in our line of work for hope, too” scene. Because Damian has gotten to know Steph and he can’t fathom why she’s here. She obviously has had to deal with crap and is still working through being kept on a leash by Nightwing and Oracle, but she isn’t broken like the rest of them are. Damian is surrounded by people who were molded and shaped and torn down and broken to become the monoliths that they are, and then there’s this girl who seems so at peace with herself and is constantly making quips, and it’s so foreign to him.

And she tells him that she’s in his world because she believes people are worth fighting for.
